TESTIMONY OF PROPHECY

"Revelation 19:20"

I THESSALONIANS 5 : 20 - 21

When God's Word Is Spoken, Fulfilled, and Confirmed: «“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet...” — Revelation 19:20 (KJV)»

Introduction

Prophecy is not merely about predicting the future. In Scripture, prophecy points people toward God's truth, His purposes, His warnings, His promises, and ultimately toward Jesus Christ.

Revelation 19:20 gives us a serious warning. It describes the capture of the beast and the false prophet, whose signs had deceived people into following the beast. Their story reminds us that supernatural signs alone are not proof that a message comes from God.

Therefore, the believer must learn to test prophecy according to God's Word.

A genuine testimony of prophecy is not simply, “Someone said it, and it sounded powerful.” It is the testimony that God's truth stands, God's Word proves faithful, and His purpose is ultimately fulfilled.

1. Prophecy Must Agree With God's Word

The Bible teaches believers not to accept every spiritual message without examination.

1 Thessalonians 5:20–21 teaches us not to despise prophecies but to test everything and hold on to what is good.

This gives us an important principle:

Do not reject prophecy blindly, but do not accept it blindly either. Test it.

Every prophetic message should be examined in the light of Scripture.

If a prophecy contradicts the character and Word of God, the believer should not follow it simply because it was delivered with confidence, emotion, or supernatural signs.

2. God Is the Source of True Prophecy

2 Peter 1:20–21 explains that prophecy did not originate merely from human will. Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

True biblical prophecy therefore draws attention to God rather than glorifying the messenger.

A prophet should never become greater than the God who gives the message.

The purpose is not to create celebrity prophets. The purpose is to reveal God's truth and encourage people to walk faithfully with Him.

3. Prophecy Can Become a Testimony

When something God has spoken comes to pass, it can become a testimony of His faithfulness.

Isaiah 55:10–11 reminds us that God's Word does not return to Him empty. His Word accomplishes the purpose for which He sends it.

What God has spoken may sometimes require patience.

There can be a period between the promise and the fulfillment.

Abraham received a promise before he saw its fulfillment.

Joseph received dreams before he experienced the position those dreams pointed toward.

David was anointed before he became king.

These examples teach us that the time between prophecy and fulfillment is not necessarily a time of abandonment. It can be a season of preparation.

4. Do Not Confuse Delay With Denial

One of the greatest dangers in the waiting season is becoming discouraged.

A person may ask:

“Where is the promise?”

“Why has it not happened yet?”

“Did God really speak?”

But Scripture repeatedly shows that God's timing may differ from human expectations.

Habakkuk 2:3 teaches that the vision has an appointed time. Though it seems slow, the instruction is to wait for it because it will surely come.

Therefore, when God has spoken according to His Word, waiting should not destroy faith.

Waiting can strengthen faith.

5. Signs Must Be Tested

Revelation 19:20 provides one of the strongest warnings about signs without truth. The false prophet performed signs that deceived people and directed them toward worship of the beast.

This means that believers must not measure spiritual truth by miracles alone.

Jesus Himself warned about false prophets and deceptive signs in Matthew 24:24.

The question should not only be:

“Did something supernatural happen?”

The deeper question is:

“Does this lead people toward the truth of God and faithful obedience to Christ?”

6. God's Prophecy Points Us Toward Christ

Biblical prophecy ultimately has a Christ-centered purpose.

Revelation 19 presents Christ as the victorious King who defeats evil. The beast and false prophet do not have the final victory.

This gives believers hope:

Evil may appear powerful for a season, but God has the final word.

The testimony of prophecy is therefore also a testimony of God's sovereignty.

7. Your Testimony Can Strengthen Someone Else

When God brings His Word to fulfillment in your life, do not keep the testimony only to yourself.

Your testimony may become encouragement for someone who is still waiting.

Psalm 66:16 says:

“Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.”

A testimony can tell someone:

“Keep trusting God.”

“Do not give up.”

“God has not forgotten you.”

“His timing is still working.”

But our testimonies should always point people back to God—not to ourselves.

8. Testimony Requires Discernment

There is a difference between faith and believing every claim.

Faith is built upon God.

Discernment protects faith from deception.

1 John 4:1 instructs believers to test the spirits because many false prophets have gone into the world.

Therefore, the mature Christian does not chase every prophecy, prediction, dream, vision, or spectacular spiritual claim.

Instead, the mature Christian asks:

Is it biblical?

Does it honor Christ?

Does it produce godly fruit?

Can it withstand examination?

Does it agree with God's revealed Word?

9. The Greatest Prophetic Testimony

The greatest testimony is not simply that something predicted happened.

The greatest testimony is that God remains faithful.

People may fail.

Plans may change.

Circumstances may shift.

But God's character does not change.

Numbers 23:19 reminds us that God is not a man that He should lie.

Therefore, when God speaks according to His Word, we can trust His character while we wait for His purposes to unfold.

A Word of Encouragement

If you are presently waiting for something God has promised, do not allow the waiting season to destroy your confidence in Him.

Continue praying.

Continue studying Scripture.

Continue walking in obedience.

Continue testing every spiritual message according to God's Word.

And when the fulfillment comes, remember to return the glory to God.

Your testimony should not make people worship the messenger.

It should make people glorify the God who fulfilled His Word.

Declaration

I will not be deceived by every voice. I will test every message by the Word of God. I will remain faithful while I wait. I will trust God's timing and His purpose for my life. Every genuine word of God concerning my life shall be fulfilled according to His will. My testimony shall glorify Jesus Christ, and my life shall become an encouragement to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflection Questions

1. Am I testing spiritual messages against Scripture? 2. Have I allowed delay to weaken my faith? 3. Does my testimony point people toward Christ or toward myself? 4. What promise of God am I currently waiting for? 5. How can I remain faithful while I wait?
