May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen your heart, renew your mind, and help you walk confidently in the purpose God has given you. Today, let us be reminded of something very important: you must know who you are in Christ, where you stand, and what God has called you to do.
Know Who You Are in Christ
If you do not know who you are in God, you may become vulnerable to the enemy's deception.
The enemy seeks to work against the purposes of God through ignorance, distraction, fear, temptation and deception. Jesus clearly described the enemy's destructive purpose:
«“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy...” — John 10:10»
But Jesus came to give us life abundantly.
You are not an abandoned person wandering through life without purpose. In Christ, you have an identity, a position, a responsibility and a divine assignment.
The Bible says: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10
Who Are You?
In Christ, you are:
- A child of God — John 1:12 - A new creation — 2 Corinthians 5:17 - Chosen and called — 1 Peter 2:9 - God's workmanship — Ephesians 2:10 - The light of the world — Matthew 5:14 - The salt of the earth — Matthew 5:13 - More than a conqueror through Christ — Romans 8:37 - Part of the body of Christ — 1 Corinthians 12:27
Knowing your identity changes the way you respond to life's battles.
You do not fight for an identity you already have in Christ; you stand in that identity and live according to it.
What Is Your Duty and Obligation?
Your position in Christ comes with responsibility.
You are called to:
1. Know God's Word. Ignorance can make a person vulnerable to deception. Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” — John 8:32.
2. Live a holy life. God has called us to be holy and set apart for Him. — 1 Peter 1:15–16.
3. Love God and love people. Jesus identified love for God and our neighbour as central commandments. — Matthew 22:37–39.
4. Be a witness for Christ. We are called to let our light shine and point others toward God. — Matthew 5:16.
5. Use your gifts faithfully. God has given each believer abilities and opportunities to serve. — 1 Peter 4:10.
6. Stand firm in spiritual warfare. We are instructed to put on the whole armour of God. — Ephesians 6:10–18.
Be Watchful and Stay in Your Lane
Not every assignment is yours.
Not every battle requires your attention.
Not every voice deserves your response.
Sometimes, the enemy does not need to destroy you; distraction is enough to move you away from your God-given assignment.
That is why Scripture says:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8
Be watchful.
Guard your heart. Guard your thoughts. Guard your words. Guard your time. Guard your assignment.
Stay in your lane.
Do what God has called you to do without constantly comparing yourself with others. Paul reminds us that the body has many members, and each member has its own function. — 1 Corinthians 12:12–27.
Your assignment may not look like someone else's assignment, but that does not make yours less important.
Do Not Give the Enemy Room
Ephesians 4:27 says:
“Neither give place to the devil.”
Do not give the enemy room through unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, disobedience, fear, compromise or spiritual carelessness.
Instead:
Submit yourself to God. Resist the devil. — James 4:7.
Your confidence is not in your own strength. Your confidence is in Christ.
Mind Fuel for Today
Ask yourself:
Who am I in Christ? What has God entrusted to me? Am I fulfilling my responsibility? What distractions are pulling me away from my assignment? Am I watchful over my spiritual life?
Never forget:
Know your identity. Know your assignment. Know your authority in Christ. Be watchful. Stay in your lane. And remain faithful to God.
The enemy may attempt to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus Christ has come that we may have life and have it abundantly. — John 10:10.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for making me Your child and giving me a purpose in Christ. Help me to know who I am in You. Give me wisdom to recognize deception, strength to resist the enemy, and discipline to remain faithful to my assignment. Keep me watchful and focused. Help me not to be distracted by the assignments of others. Let my life bring glory to Your name and let me faithfully fulfill every good work You have prepared for me. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
